Well, Pat and I have finally gotten to where we're ready to launch the new, improved Web Style Guide site. We made quite a few changes with this latest edition. First, it's longer. That could be a feature for some and a bug for others. And we can no longer refer to it as a slim volume. But we are very enthused about all the content we added - especially the new figures and a whole chapter on universal usability. So we think the additional weight is worth it.
We've also added what we are calling a Notebook to the online version. That's what you're reading now. We are both active web designers, and we often make observations or devise methods that we forget to record and share because we lack an easy means to jot them down. So we decided to start taking field notes - notes from the field - and record them here in our shared Notebook, which we hope you will read and add to as well.
For starters, let us know what you think of our new website, and the third edition of Web Style Guide.

You seem to have a lot of broken links to graphics. When will these be fixed?

I just went through the site and fixed some broken image links. Sorry about that! Please let us know if you find anything else amiss.

Well done folks. The 'new' guide is looking excellent. I have long used it as a core reference in teaching web design and will make sure the book becomes a core text next September. As I revamp what I teach this summer I am finding that the theories from the The Guide and the processes provided by usability.gov provide a perfect stucture. It hits all the points we currently teach (our focus has always been usability/accessibility as we're not techies), add a few new ones and give us a great foundation. Many thanks for the hard work. Richard.
